In 7:157 of the Quran, it makes the very bold claim that Muhammad would be described in the Torah and the Gospels. But if you actually read the Torah and Gospels, he is nowhere to be found. This is an issue because Muslims believe that the Quran is the direct, unerring word of Allah. So if there is anything wrong in the Quran, then Muslims must grab one of two horns- either they will have to say that Allah is the God of liars, or Allah does not know anything about his own creation. But Muslims don’t believe that about Allah, so Muslims will make many arguments against the claim.
-Preface-
In this Study, I will bring up Quran verses, Tafsirs, Hadiths, and personal experiences with Muslims. I will be providing sources for all of my claims, except for the personal experiences, so you’re just going to have to trust me on some of this.
In this study, I will be breaking down everything so that someone who knows nothing about Islam or the Bible can understand and read this post.
I will be breaking down this study into 3 parts-
Part 1: The main argument
Part 2: Common rebuttles againtst my argument
Part 3: Maybe Muhammad is in the Bible?
With that being said lets get on with the reading-
Words
Quran: The Quran is the religious book for Muslims. Muslims believe the Quran is the direct, unerring word of Allah.1 The Quran is commonly made up of 114 surahs(aka chapters) and around 6,200 ayahs (aka verses).2
Tafsir: A tafsir is a commentary on the Quran3
Allah: Allah is the God of the Quran. Muslims believe Allah is uncreated, unfailable, and beyond our understanding.4
Muhammad: Muhammad is the core figure of Islam5. Muslims believe that Muhammad is –
- The last prophet (Surah 33:40)
- The perfect muslim (Surah 33:21)
- That the words of Muhammad are not from him, but from Allah (Surah 53:1-12 & Tafsir-Maududi)
Torah, Taurat, and Law– These words are basically the same, but with some small differences
- Torah: The Torah is the first five books of the Old Testament, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.6 The Torah is written down by the Jews and recited by both Jews and Christians
- Law: In the context of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, the Law refers to the Torah or Taurat
- Taurat: In Islam, the Taurat is regarded as an Islamic holy book that was revealed by God to guide the Children of Israel.7
The main differences between the 3, is the usage of the words and who believes what about them. But the ideas of the books are the same… Some what (we will get into that later)
Zabur: According to Islam, the Zabur is the holy book of David, one of the holy books revealed by Allah. The Zabur is also called the Psalms8
Gospel, and Injeel – These two words are basically the same, but with some small differences
- Gospel: The Gospel is the first four books of the New Testament of the bible. Which includes Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Christians believe that the Gospel is literature that is based on oral traditions of Jesus’s life and his teachings.9 The word Gospel means “the Good news.”
- Injeel: The Injeel is the Arabic word for “Gospel of Jesus.” Muslims believe that the Injeel is revealed by Allah. Most Muslims do not identify the Injīl with the four canonical Gospels of the New Testament.10 (We will speak more about that later)
The Scripture(or the Book): Depending on the context, the scripture(or the Book) could be referring to the Torah(Surah 10:94, Tafsir), the Gospels(Surah 5:68), or the Quran(Surah 3:3).
Part 1: The Main Argument
“˹They are˺ the ones who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whose description they find in their Torah and the Gospel. He commands them to do good and forbids them from evil, permits for them what is lawful and forbids to them what is impure, and relieves them from their burdens and the shackles that bound them. ˹Only˺ those who believe in him, honour and support him, and follow the light sent down to him will be successful.”
Tafsir: Kathir – Ibn Kathir
(Those who follow the Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write whom they find written with them in the Tawrah and the Injil,) This is the description of the Prophet Muhammad in the Books of the Prophets.
Tafsir: Jalal – Al-Jalalayn
those who follow the Messenger, the uninstructed Prophet, Muhammad (s) whom they will find inscribed in their Torah and Gospel, in name and description, enjoining them to decency and forbidding them indecency, making lawful for them the good things,
The verse above clearly states that Muhammad would be described in the Torah and the Gospels, and the Tafsirs agree with the claim. The Quran says that Muhammad would be described in the Torah and the Gospels. But I’ve not been able to find him, and trust me, I’ve looked. So maybe other people can find him?
Part 2: Common rebuttals against my argument
-Let’s look for people claiming that Muhammad is in the Torah and the Gospels-
Looking for Muhammad in the Torah and Gospels-
Deuteronomy 18:15-18
‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.” The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. ‘
Many Muslims will use Deuteronomy chapter 18 to say Muhammad is in the Bible.
The Main Argument –
A Muslim by the channel name of Revert to Islam Sister Mellany makes a video by the name of “Moses vs The Coming ProphetWhat Deuteronomy 18:15 Really Means.” And in this video, Mellany claims that Deuteronomy 18:15-18 is talking about Muhammad, and not Jesus. But we run into some issues with this argument.
- This verse is talking about Jesus – Acts 3:22 ‘For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.’ Luke made it very clear who that verse was talking about. So, for someone over 2000 years later to say otherwise does not make any sense. She was trying to answer a question that had already been answered, and that’s why her argument fails.
Deuteronomy 33:2
‘He said: “The Lord came from Sinai and dawned over them from Seir; he shone forth from Mount Paran. He came with myriads of holy ones from the south, from his mountain slopes. ‘
The Main Argument –
Here’s a book by Dr. Khalil Ahmad Nasir called Muhammad in the Bible. And in this book, the author uses Deuteronomy 33:2 to “prove” that Muhammad is in the Bible. The Author claims that it is a prophecy of Muhammad. But the author fails to mention verse one, so let’s read this verse in context.
‘This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced on the Israelites before his death. He said: “The Lord came from Sinai and dawned over them from Seir; he shone forth from Mount Paran. He came with myriads of holy ones from the south, from his mountain slopes. ‘
As you can read, this is not a prophecy; this is a blessing.
Matthew 21:42-44
‘Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “ ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’ ? “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.” ‘
The Main Argument –
A post by Professor Shahul Hameed on Was Muhammad Mentioned in the Bible? The author claims that Matthew 21:42-44 is not referring to Jesus, but to Muhammad, which is incorrect.
- Read the context: Read Matthew 21:33-40. If you understand the Bible in anyway you would know that this is clearly talking about Jesus. The landowner is the Father, and his Son is Jesus.
John 14:16
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever”
The Main Argument –
A post by WhyIslam? on Mohammed in the Bible: Jesus’ Prophecy. The author claims that the “Paraclete” (aka advocate) is talking about Muhammad. Which is wrong?
- This is talking about the Holy Spirit: Read John 14:16-17. As verse 17 says, “the Spirit of truth.” Muhammad is not Spirit. And again, ” But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” How would Muhammad be in anyone?

That’s Not The True Injeel Or Taurat–
There are some Mulims who gave up completely on finding Muhammad in the Bible, so they took a different approach to disproving the argument. These Muslims came up with the idea that the Gospel and Torah in the Quran are not the same as those in our Bible today. Which would be actually a really good argument- If it did not fail immediately after just a little scrutiny. Here, let’s talk about it.
Here is the main argument-
Allah is all-knowing, and the Quran affirms the Gospel11, but the Gospel disagrees with the Quran, so the Quran must be talking about a different book.
But we run into a couple of issues when we actually look into the claim. If we try looking for the “true Injeel,” we can’t find it. And how Muslims respond to that is by saying that the true Injeel has been lost over time without a trace. Which is a stupid claim- Think about it for a second: This injeel was written down in the first century around Judaea, then made its way over to the 6th century Arabia, just for Muhammad to say “yeah, I’m in this book,” then immediately disappeared without a trace. That is literally impossible. And that’s just the Injeel; if we talk about the Torah, it would prove my claim even more.
The Gospels are Corrupted
The other side of Muslims who try to disprove the claim that Muhammad is not in the Bible, say that the Gospel and Torah are corrupted. Which is wrong for many reasons-
The Islamic dilemma–
The Islamic dilemma is the idea that Muslims say that the Torah and the Gospels are corrupt, but the problem with that claim is that the Quran affirms the validity of the Torah and the Gospels (see Surah 5:47 & Surah 5:68). So if the Torah and Gospels are corrupt, then the Quran would be conforming to corrupted scripture, and if that is the case in islam is wrong.

Part 3: Maybe Muhammad is in the Bible?
With me looking for Muhammad in the Bible, I did find something strange. Muhammad is actually in the bible. To understand what I’m about to say, I have to tell you a story:
This story starts in the 6th-century Mecca: around this time, there were a lot of pagan nations and a lot of people who rejected the true God. But within all of these people following false Gods there was one man who did not; he felt that all of this was wrong, but he did not understand why. Well, while this man was pondering, he found himself in a cave. This cave was very dark, with the man only being able to see through shere will power. When he was about to leave the cave a angel of light came down and told him that he was the next prophet of the true God. This man was baffled and went straight home to his family to tell them the good news. This man continued to get revelations from the true God and that angel.
If you have never heard that story, great! You just heard the beginning story of Muhammad (with some creative liberties), but the reason I was telling you that story is for one specific part- the Angel of light.
Here, let me read a Bible verse real quick- ‘But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! ‘ Galatians 1:8
The Whole begings of Islam started because Muhammad received a message from an angel of God, telling him something diffrent then what the Gospel that Jesus taught. Let me make this more clear- Jesus taught that he was God(John 10:30-33), He taught that he would die on the cross(Matthew 20:28), and he taught that he was the son of God(John 10:36). But the Quran taught that Jesus was not God(Surah 7:171) the Quran taught that Jesus did not die on the cross(Surah 4:157) and then the Quran taught that God did not have a Son(Surah 17:111). All of the core teachings of Jesus, the Quran rejects. And the Bible predicts that. The Bible predicts that there will be an angel that would come down and spread lies, and there will be a false prophet. But the Bible makes it very clear that we should not follow him, because he will deceive you. If that does not sound like Muhammad im not sure what will sound like him.
End Thoughts-
I know I did not answer the question, Why Muhammad would never be in the Bible and I even proved otherwise, but I hope you got something out of this. If you’re a Christian wanting to learn more about why we reject Islam. Or of your a Muslim trying to find the truth, I hope all of you got what you looked for, truth. Jesus Christ be with you all- Amen.
